"What anti-virus software can I download from the university? How do I install it? How do I update it?"

If you are a student, faculty, or staff of the University of Maryland, you can download free anti-virus software to your Windows or Macintosh computer or pick up a copy of the Getting Connected CD at the OIT Helpdesk.

Use the following tables below to download, install, upgrade, and update the anti-virus software for your Windows or Macintosh operating system:


McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VirusScan 8.7.2) for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7

Note: This is the most current version of the VirusScan for Windows XP/Vista/7 systems.

McAfee VirusScan for Mac OS X

There are two steps you should follow in order to use the VirusScan anti-virus software to protect your computer.

  1. Download and Install the software / Purchase the CD
  2. Update the software--the software is USELESS if it is not up-to-date and kept up-to-date on a regular basis
