"What other information is out there about computer
viruses?"
There is a lot of information on the Internet about computer
viruses. The following list of hyperlinks to computer virus information
only contains some of the information available. The hyperlinks are
broken down by the type of information they provide. The 5 types of
information are as follows:
- Virus Alert Pages: These are websites
that post information about newly discovered viruses, and are used by the
Virus Notification Program to determine what computer viruses may affect
the university.
- Virus Encyclopedias and Calendars: These are
websites where you can search for information about a particular virus or
find out what days certain viruses are activated.
- Virus Notification Email Services: These
are websites where you can sign up to be alerted about new viruses.
- Virus Information Resources: These are websites
where you can learn more about computer viruses in general and how they
work.
- Virus Hoaxes: Sometimes, you may get
an email message that has been forwarded several times that warns
of some new virus. Unless the original sender of the email works
for an anti-virus software company or the university's Virus
Notification Program, there is a good chance that the warning is a
hoax. These websites can tell you if the warning you received is a common
virus hoax (there are a surprising number of hoaxes).
