You can configure Eudora 6.2.x to use the University Directory ID and Pasword to access your Mail@umd account.
To do this, follow the steps below:
Double-click the Eudora 6.2.3 icon in your Applications
folder to launch the program.

Eudora will launch and then may ask Would you like to import
settings and mail from another email application?. Select
No.

A Settings window should automatically appear. If the
window does not appear, click on the Special menu and select
Settings...
In the User Name: field, type in your login name for
Mail@umd. In the Mail Server: field, type in mail.umd.edu.
In the Real Name: field, type in your full name. In the SMTP
Server: field, type in mail.umd.edu. In the Email
Address: field, type in your full e-mail address. If you would
like to make Eudora your default e-mail client, place a check next to
Make Eudora the default Mailer.

Click on the Checking Mail icon. Next to the Mail
Protocol: radio buttons, choose either POP or IMAP.
IMAP is recommended because this will save your mail on the mail
server and allow it to be backed-up. POP is not recommended
because your mail is saved on your hard drive and not
backed-up.

Click on the Sending Mail icon. Place a check next to
Allow authorization.

Click on the SSL icon. Use the drop-down menu to set SSL
for SMTP: to Required (TLS). Set SSL for IMAP: to
Required (Alternate Port). Note: If
you chose to use POP instead of IMAP, set SSL for POP: to
Required (Alternate Port). Under Standard Port SSL
Negotiation, select TLS 1.0 (Cyrus). Under Alternate Port
SSL
Negotiation, select Maximum Compatibility. Click the OK
button.

Click the Check Mail icon.

A window will pop-up, type your Directory password in the
Password: field and click OK. After you type in
your password, you may be prompted to configure your Trash and Junk
folders.

Configuration is now complete and your Mail@umd inbox will
appear.
