Securing Email Connections in Entourage

Secure Connection Setup for Entourage

This web page will guide you through setting up Entourage so that you can use it securely to send and receive e-mail. To set up the Secure Connection, do the following:

  1. Click the Tools menu and go to Accounts:
  2. Under the Mail tab in the Accounts window, you will see your mail account name(s). Click the appropriate account name, click the Edit button. Accounts window image
  3. An Edit Account window will appear and this will allow you to change mail settings. Click the button that reads Click here for advanced receiving options. Edit account window image
  4. In the Pop-up window that appears, check the box that reads This IMAP requires a secure connection (SSL).

  5. Close this Pop-up window by clicking on the small box in the top left corner of the little window. You will return to the Edit Account window. Click the button that reads Click here for advanced sending options.
  6. If your outgoing mail server is mail.umd.edu, Check the box that reads SMTP server requires authentication. Make sure the circle that is labeled Use the same settings as receiving mail server is filled in.
    NOTE: leave this box un-checked for WAM, Glue or Deans.

    Click the box in the top left corner of this window to exit it.
  7. Click the OK in the Edit Account window.
