FVWM Modules are small programs you can load into FVWM to do
various things. By allowing the use of modules, FVWM greatly
reduces the amount of memory it needs (you only load the ones
you want) as well as increasing it's configurability. You can
access the modules from the Utility menu (hold down the left
button on the desktop). Below is a list of the modules
available and a brief description of what they do.
Icon Manager
The Icon Manger displays a list of the applications you
are currently running. By clicking on the title of a
window or application, you can iconify or deiconify that
application. A small box will be displayed to the right
of all the windows that are currently minimized.
Button-Bar
By default, the button-bar is automatically loaded when
you log in, and is placed at the bottom right corner of
your screen. The button-bar contains icons for some of
the more popular applications, (such as Mozilla Firefox, Mail
and Xterm) as well as icons for the Pager module.
The Mail button on the button-bar will launch
whatever program the XMAILREADER environment variable is
set to. By default, that variable is set to 'xpine.' You
can add the line
setenv XMAILREADER mymailreader
where mymailreader is the mail reader of your
choice (Xmail, Simeon, etc) to your .environment file
(notice the period is the first character of the
file!) to have the mail button load your favorite
mail reader.
Identify
After loading the Identify module, your cursor will be
turned into a '+'. When you select a window, it brings up
the X-Window properties for that window or application in a
dialog box. Clicking the dialog box clears it.

Auto Raise
Automatically raises the current window (the one the mouse
cursor is on top of) to the front of the desktop.
Pager
Brings up an icon of your Virtual Desktop. (This is
already in the default Button Bar.) Look at Navigating Multiple
Desktops for
more information on how to use the pager.
The Window List
Similar to Icon Manager, it also displays a list of
windows you currently have open. However, when you click
on an application in the window list, your desktop will
automatically be moved to the one where that application
is residing. If the application is minimized, it will be
restored. Minimized applications are displayed in
parenthesis on the Window List.
Background
The Background module allows you to specify different
backgrounds for each of your desktops.
Banner
Displays the FVWM2 Banner for 3-4 seconds.
