All public
computer labs on campus are OWL
Labs (Open Workstation Labs).
They are owned and maintained by the department in which the lab
resides, but OWL labs receive significant subsidies from the Office of
Information Technology
(OIT)
in exchange for being available to everyone on campus and
maintaining a lab-assistance staff to help users. OIT does
not offer direction on what is available in the labs, as they do for the
OIT Computer Labs, so
OWL labs tend to have a wide variety of
software and
hardware. Most labs use the Pay-For-Print service provided by
OIT. One exception is Office of Academic Computing Services (OACS)
who run their own open computer lab and charge independently of the
Pay-For-Print system. Find
out more information about OWL Labs.
