The version of Alpine available on TerpConnect includes a feature called a
global addressbook. This feature allows Alpine to access the University's
Directory service to obtain, among other things, the e-mail addresses
of faculty/staff.
The global addressbook for the University of Maryland will already be set up
for your account. To access this addressbook follow these steps:
- Type m to go to the main menu in Alpine if
you are not already there.
- Type a or use the arrow keys to select
Address Book from the menu and press Enter

- You should now see the screen above. Use the arrow keys to select
University of Maryland from the list and press Enter
- You will now be prompted for a "String to search for." Type the last
name of the person that you wish to search for. Press
Enter.
- On the following screen you will be presented with summary information
about the person(s) that the search returned. Use the arrow keys to
select the person that you would like to retrieve more detailed
information on. Press Enter.
- In the following screen you will be presented with detailed information
from the Directory service; include, if available, the person's e-mail
address.

- The above options are valid for the details display. Note:
If an e-mail address is not available then the ComposeTo and Fwd Email
