Windows 98/ME End-of-Life

On June 30, 2006 the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Help Desk ended support for Windows 98, Windows 98SE, and Windows ME. This coincided with the date on which Microsoft ended support for Windows 98/ME and discontinued software updates for these older operating systems. As of the termination date, Microsoft will no longer issue security patches for Windows 98/ME.

The OIT Help Desk recommends users of Windows 98/ME operating systems upgrade to Windows XP if the computer meets the minimum hardware requirements. Qualified university personnel can obtain Windows XP Professional through OIT Software Licensing. Students can purchase a discounted upgrade version of Windows XP Professional at the University Book Center.
