Custom Headers in Pine

You may add your own custom headers to all outgoing messages. Each header you specify here must include the header tag (Reply-To:, Approved:, etc.) and may optionally include a value for that header. To do this:

  1. The first step is to get into the Pine program. To do this type: pine at the WAM Prompt.
  2. At the main menu type s for Setup.

    pine main menu

  3. Now, type c for Config.

    pine setup screen

  4. You are now in the Configuration Screen. Scroll down the list of options until you see: customize-hdrs

    pine config menu

  5. With customize-hdrs highlighted, type a to Add a Value. The syntax for the value is:

    header-type: attributes

In the example below the header type is "Reply-To" and the attributes are your "Full Name" and your "e-mail address" in <angle brackets>.

pine config menu with customized header added

  6. Hit Enter to accept.

    accept the addition

  7. You can add more than one custom header. To do this, just type a to add another header, just follow the steps listed above. If you need to change a custom header that you have already accepted type c. If you want to delete a header type d and select which one is to be deleted.
  8. Type e to Exit Setup.

    exit from the config menu

  9. Type y to Accept the Changes.

    accept the changes

  10. The next time you compose a message the new custom headers will be available. However, the default setting is to show only a short list of the standard headers. If you want to view and use the full list of headers, this includes the ones that you add as custom, hit CTRL-R in the compose screen.

enable the display of the rich header in composition
