Starting Fall 2003, all faculty, staff and students of the University
of Maryland, College Park, should follow the new
procedure for
applying for accounts on the new Office of Information Technology
(OIT) mail system, WAM and getting a
UM Directory ID. This process is fully automated, and does not
require the person to come to the OIT
Help Desk in person for verification
of the accounts.
How to Apply for a New
WAM Account
For those affiliated with the University, here are the procedures
to follow to apply for a new WAM account:
- Open a web browser
- Go to http://www.oit.umd.edu/new
- Select the category on the OIT welcome page pertaining to
your status at the University
-
Complete details on the application process.
- Read and follow the directions
on the screen.
WAM accounts are only for the University of Maryland, College
Park, day school students, faculty, and staff.
How to
Request a Password Change for a WAM Account
Your WAM Account password is the same as your Directory Password. If you have forgotten your Directory password
and have not set up your Security Questions, you need to visit the
OIT Help Desk.
If you know your Directory password and want to change it, you can login
to any WAM UNIX system and use the passwd command to
change the password; or you can change it by using the on-line
Password Management page.
How
to Request a Change of Login ID for a WAM Account
Changing a WAM login ID affects a person's Glue and Directory ID. Login
ID changes are a lengthy process; therefore, the Help Desk recommends
avoiding it, if possible. If you must change your id, call the
OIT Help Desk.
