Changing Your Finger Information

This page will tell you how to change your finger information, and the subtle differences in how it is done on the various UNIX systems on campus

TerpConnect (formerly WAM/Glue)

On the TerpConnect system, you can use the command chfn from any shell prompt.

The system will prompt you to change the following:

Full Name:
Room Number:
Office Phone Number:
Home Phone Number
Login Shell:


NOTE: We very much recommend that you not make any changes to your login shell unless you are certain that you know what you are doing!.

The last prompt will ask if the information you have entered is correct. It will take 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

GLUE

On the GLUE system, several subtle differences.

  1. You are prompted to enter your password. You must enter your password in correctly because the system does not recognize
    the backspace/delete keys.
  2. You can not change your name, but you may changed other information.
  3. There will be no prompt to ask you if this information is correct. If you make an error, simply retype chfn and re-enter the information.
