A point-in-time restore restores files to the state that existed at a specific
date/time. A file created after that date is not restored; only the changes made
before the date/time are restored.
Note: Enough inactive versions of a file must be maintained to guarantee a
file can be restored to a specific date/time. If enough versions are not maintained,
TSM restores the oldest available version of the file. When a point-in-time restore
runs, files that were created on the client after the point-in-time date are not
deleted. TSM restores file versions from the most recent backup before the specified
point-in-time date. Ensure the point-in-time you specify is not the same as the time
and date that a backup was performed.
-
Click the Restore icon from the main window. The Restore window will appear.
-
Click Point-in-Time from the Restore window.
-
Select Use a Point-in-Time date during restore from the Point-in-Time Restore
window.
-
Choose appropriate Month/Day/Year, etc.
-
Click on OK.
-
Selecting OK will not begin the restore procedure. Selecting OK will
alter the files that are displayed to you in the directory-tree window. Only one
version of each file will be displayed, the version that corresponds to the
point-in-time that you have chosen. Point-in-Time overrides the Display
active/inactive setting. The file that is displayed may be the inactive version
if it is the inactive version that corresponds to the date you have chosen, even if
"Display Active Files Only" is the View option selected. Similarly, you will not see
both the active and inactive versions of a file, even if "Display active/inactive
files" view option is selected. Remember, only one version of each file is listed,
that which corresponds to the chosen point-in-time.
-
The versions of the files displayed have been altered to correspond to the desired
point-in-time. To restore the file(s), follow the instructions for
Restoring Using a Directory Tree/To Restore.
