How to Set up Eudora 6.2 for Mail@umd

  1. Double-click the Eudora 6.2.3 icon in your Applications folder to launch the program.

  2. Eudora will launch and then may ask Would you like to import settings and mail from another email application?. Select No.

  3. A Settings window should automatically appear. If the window does not appear, click on the Special menu and select Settings...

  4. In the User Name: field, type in your login name for Mail@umd. In the Mail Server: field, type in mail.umd.edu. In the Real Name: field, type in your full name. In the SMTP Server: field, type in mail.umd.edu. In the Email Address: field, type in your full e-mail address. If you would like to make Eudora your default e-mail client, place a check next to Make Eudora the default Mailer.

  5. Click on the Checking Mail icon. Next to the Mail Protocol: radio buttons, choose either POP or IMAP. IMAP is recommended because this will save your mail on the mail server and allow it to be backed-up. POP is not recommended because your mail is saved on your hard drive and not backed-up.

  6. Click on the Sending Mail icon. Place a check next to Allow authorization.

  7. Click on the SSL icon. Use the drop-down menu to set SSL for SMTP: to Required (TLS). Set SSL for IMAP: to Required (Alternate Port). Note: If you chose to use POP instead of IMAP, set SSL for POP: to Required (Alternate Port). Under Standard Port SSL Negotiation, select TLS 1.0 (Cyrus). Under Alternate Port SSL Negotiation, select Maximum Compatibility. Click the OK button.

  8. Click the Check Mail icon.

  9. A window will pop-up, type your Mail@umd password in the Password: field and click OK. After you type in your password, you may be prompted to set up your Trash and Junk folders.

  10. Setup is now complete. Your Mail@umd inbox will appear.
