The Office of Information Technology's (OIT) Help Desk phone number and hours of operation
If you've lost or forgotten the password:
Go to the OIT Help Desk, with your
University ID to replace a lost and/or forgotten password. Changed
passwords are processed immediately.
The teller does not accept your password:
-
Wrong account?
-
Check that you are not entering a password from another
account, i.e. a wam account password instead of the print account
password. Print account passwords are separate from WAM account
passwords.
-
Check to make sure that you type teller
at the bank login , not your Print
Account (student ID) number.
-
Keyboard or input problems?
-
You may have entered or changed the password with the numlock
key off, or used a strange character like spacebar in your password. If
bank.umd.edu still recognizes the password, then change the
password from bank; otherwise, have the password changed at the OIT Help
Desk.
-
Do not use "-" when you type in your print authorization.
-
Is the "caps-lock" key pressed?
-
The keyboard may have a sticky or broken key. This may
not be obvious at first because the password you type does not appear
on the screen.
-
If none of these suggestions work, bring your
student ID and registration to the OIT Help Desk and describe the
problem.
Several conditions may spur the Insufficient funds error:
No funds transferred into the Print Account:
Verify that money
has been
transferred into your Print Account from your
Terrapin Express account. Transfer funds,
if needed.
Insufficient funds in the Terrapin Express
Account:
The minimum amount for transfers is $1.00. If the Terrapin Express
Account balance is below $1.00, more money
must be deposited into the Terrapin
Express in order to transfer $1.00 into the Print Account.
Funds Held:
When a job is sent to the printer, funds up to the maximum page setting
are held while the job is waiting. If the job is not successful,
the funds return to the account after 2 hours. Funds held in escrow, will reduce the
funds available for immediate use. To avoid "Insufficient Funds" errors,
set the maximum page setting to the number of pages in your document each
time you print.
Maximum Pages Parameter:
The maximum page parameter sets the number of pages that the program
expects to print for the job sent. The default value is 25 pages.
(10 pages for the IBM)
If an account has less than 250 cents, the pages will not be sent because
the program is checking for an ability to print 25 pages. Thus,
the maximum page setting needs to be changed.
On the Mac the maximum page paremeter is changed in the
same window that the authorization
code and password are entered from.
On the IBM, the maximum page setting is changed in the
"Limits" area in the
"NPP for Windows" window (the same window that you select a file and
print from).
From a WAM or GLUE unix account, you must specify the cent amount when
you issue the qpr command: qpr -q queue -m
cents filename.
"Communications Trouble"
Exit from the telnet session and try again after a few
minutes. If the problem persists call the OIT Help Desk.
"Account not in file or lost
card"
The bank computer cannot locate the Print Account's Terrapin Express
account, for the following reasons:
-
You do not have a Terrapin Express - go
to 1109 South Campus Dining Hall to establish a Terrapin Express.
-
You may have a lost card code mismatch - Call
the OIT Help Desk for instructions.
-
There may be trouble with the connection to the
Terrapin Express system. If it persists, contact the OIT Help Desk
for more information.
Terrapin Express balance is shown as zero
You may have a lost card code mismatch. Call the OIT Help Desk
for instructions.
Incorrect syntax
You will get error messages if you type transfer
only and press return. You must type transfer followed
by a space and then the amount you wish to transfer.
For example, transfer 100.
You will get error messages if you try to transfer less
than 100 or more than 2000 at any one time.
bank.umd.edu not accepting logins
This indicates a problem with the network. Try again in
a few minutes. If the problem persists call the OIT Help Desk.
