Important:
All of the following directions are assuming the initial step
of your computer being connected to the internet. The
Office of Information Technology (OIT) Help Desk
recommends that you access the account using SSH.
-
From a Microsoft Windows Machine (2000 and XP):
-
Network programs such as telnet, ftp, and common e-mail protocols transfer data
across the network unencrypted. As a result OIT has replaced those
programs with ssh (short for Secure Shell). These programs encrypt all data
transmitted on the network.
-
More information about ssh supported clients (F-Secure
and TeraTerm Pro Web - Enhanced Telnet/SSH2 Client) can be found at:
the Help Desk.

be able to log in to the computers, and these will give
