Network and database problems the evening of May 12-13, 2009 Expected uptime: Around 4:30 a.m. Around 8:30 p.m. last evening, the database server which handles course evaluations, admissions, the UM portal, and some other applications, encountered problems. The problems were quickly resolved, and applications were affected for only a very few minutes. The database staff is investigating the cause and permanent solutions. At about 12:30 a.m. this morning, there was an outage of a network firewall. Due to this outage, some AFS file servers went down and some application servers had to be restarted, but all came back up by 4:20 a.m. Mainframe printers were also affected, but were back online quickly. The systems staff are currently doing an analysis of the firewall to resolve the issue and prevent it from re-occurring. Unscheduled event posted at: Wed May 13 2009 12:41:51 |
