Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5 and 6 can be configured
to access the campus
directory service, allowing you to search for contact
information for University of Maryland, College Park faculty
and staff.

On the menu bar, click on Tools
and then Accounts.

When the Internet Accounts window appears,
click on the Add button and then click on
Directory Service.

The next screen asks for the name of the Internet directory
server. Type in directory.umd.edu and click
Next (Do NOT check the checkbox).

On the next screen, select Yes to check
for email addresses using the directory service and then
click Next.

On the next screen, click Finish.

Now back at the Internet Accounts screen,
click on the Directory Service tab.
Click once on the listing for directory.umd.edu
and then click the Properties button.

The directory.umd.edu Properties window will
appear. Click on the Advanced tab.
In the box labeled Search base, type
dc=umd,dc=edu.

Click on the Apply button, and then click
OK. On the Internet Accounts screen, click
the Close button.
The campus directory service is now configured. To search the
campus directory:

On the menu bar, click on Tools and
then choose Address Book.

In the Address Book window, click on the
Find People button.

The Find People window will appear. Click on the drop-down
arrow for the Look in box and choose
directory.umd.edu. To search for a person
by name, enter their name (preferably their last name or
their first and last name) in the Name
box. To search by email, enter their email address in
the E-mail box. Click on the
Find Now button to conduct the search.

The search results will be displayed in a window at the
bottom of the Find People screen. To
display all of the information about an entry in the
results window, click once on the entry so that it is
highlighted and click on the Properties
button. To add the entry to your personal address book,
click once on the entry so that it is highlighted and click
on the Add to Address Book button.
