Downloading and Installing Virex 7.7

This file is a licensed version that is only available to current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland. If you do not have a University of Maryland Certificate, you will be prompted to get one. You will be asked to enter your Directory ID and password. This information is only used to check your affiliation with the University.

Before installing Virex 7.7, make sure that you have installed and are running Mac OS X version 10.3 - 10.3.9. Do not install this software if you are running Mac OS X version 10.4 or higher; use VirusScan for Mac 8.5 instead.

  1. First, download the installer.
    Note: Please see this page for further information if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Mac.
  2. Double-click on the downloaded file Virex77.dmg to mount the image, if it is not already mounted. The file will expand and it will create an installer package called Virex.pkg.
  3. Double-click on the file to install it. The installer will appear. A pop-up window may appear and ask to use a program to determine if the software can be installed.

  4. Click on Continue , when asked, a welcome message will appear.
  5. Click on Continue.
  6. Read the release notes which include system requirements and make sure that your computer is capable of running Virex 7.7. Keep in mind that you need at least Mac OS X version 10.3 to install Virex 7.7.
  7. Click on Continue.

  8. Read the license agreement
  9. Click on Continue.

  10. Click on Agree button to continue installing the Software.

  11. Select the drive where you want to install the Virex 7.7 software.
  12. Click on Continue.

  13. Click on Install button, or the Upgrade button if you have an older version installed. You will then see a progress bar telling you how far along the install process is.
  14. Click on Continue button. You will now be prompted to authenticate by entering in the administrator password for your computer.

  15. Click on Restart button to finish the installation. Your computer will restart and Virex 7.7 is now installed.
