Guest Wireless Accounts
The
Guest Wireless Account tool
provides faculty and staff with the
ability to sponsor a maximum of four visitors temporary access to the
University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) wireless network.
Guest Wireless Accounts will provide a
temporary user-ID and password that will allow your guest to log into the
wireless network just as you can
with your Directory ID and password. Faculty and staff can request a
maximum of four guest accounts to be active at any one time. The accounts
can be active for up to 30 days.
If you require more than four simultaneously accounts, please see your
designated Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator. LAN
Administrators are designated by your local Departmental Data
Representative (DDR). A list of DDRs can be found at:
http://www.oit.umd.edu/units/nts/voicesys/faculty/dtr.html
University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) faculty who are visiting
University of Maryland, University College (UMUC) can also request
wireless accounts. For more information about this, please see
UMUC Wireless Accounts.
Bulk Accounts (more than four)
Selected LAN Administrators are also authorized to create bulk accounts
using the Guest Wireless tool. Please see Help Desk Tools For Guest Wireless Access to
create such accounts.
Format for Wireless Accounts
Guest Wireless Accounts are automatically generated using the
sponsor’s Directory ID as a prefix followed by a hyphen and
incremental number (directoryid-number). For example, Joe User requests
four accounts; they would be generated as juser-1, juser-2, juser-3,
and juser-4. Upon creation of the accounts, you will be immediately
provided with the account information. Please make sure you supply that
information to your guests.
Resetting a Guest’s Password
If your guest forgets his password, you can use this tool to reset
it. Simply select the Reset Password button on the main Guest
Wireless Account tool page. This will reset passwords
for all active guest accounts.
Deleting an Account
If a guest leaves prior to the expiration of his account, you
should delete the account. Wireless guest accounts can be deleted by
calling the Office of Information Technology (OIT)
Help Desk.
UMUC Wireless Accounts
UMUC will create Wireless E-mail Access UMCP for faculty who will be
visiting. Requests can be sent to:
Request

UMUC will send a request via the e-mail account requesting login and password
information. UMUC will commit to responding to the email requests
within four hours of receipt during business hours (7:30am - 5pm).
E-mail requests received outside of those hours will be addressed the
next business day. The login information will allow UMCP faculty to
have wireless access to the Internet in both the Inn and Conference
