Pine on TerpConnect can be used with the new Mail@umd
system. All folders on Mail@umd are accessible once Pine has been properly
set up. To do this, Office of Information Technology (OIT) has created a
simple script to back up the existing
".pinerc" file and modify it for the new mail system.
The script can be found in the "/usr/local/scripts" directory;
is titled "migrate-pine". To run it, simply type:
migrate-pine
If, for some reason, this does not work, you can also run it via:
/usr/local/scripts/migrate-pine
Once you have run the script, Pine is ready to use with Mail@umd. It will
convert your current settings for the following Pine variables:
inbox-path
folder-collections
default-fcc
postponed-folder
The
"folder-collections" setting will allow you to see both the
folders on the new mail system and those on the local mail system. Because
you will have these folders collections in your Collect List, anything
that was stored locally will not be lost in the conversion.
If you have any specialized settings affected by the script, you can simply
run the script, then modify the Pine configuration from within Pine by
selecting "s" (Setup) and then "c" (Config) from the
main Pine menu and modifying them as you wish. Your old ".pinerc"
file will be saved in the file ".pinerc.old" for you to reference
if you wish to make such changes.
Note: The version of Pine on the TerpConnect
system supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, and this will be
enabled in your ".pinerc" file by the conversion script.
