Oracle Calendar Software is a product which will allow
people to keep track of their daily, weekly, and monthly schedules on the
computer. It can be accessed using a web browser, via client software,
and by synchronizing with a palmtop computing device (Palm OS 5 or Windows Mobile 5).
Accounts are available at no charge, but there are costs associated with the
client software and palmtop synchronization software.
Oracle Calendar is a group calendaring product, which
means that it allows people to set up appointments with other Oracle Calendar
users. People can also view the calendars of other Oracle Calendar users,
subject to the permission other users have granted them. Depending
on departmental decisions, it may also be possible to request conference
rooms or reserve equipment using the system.
Calendaring software has been purchased for the university because
of the tremendous demand for this functionality. Many departments
throughout campus are already using various mutually incompatible
calendaring products. The advantage of switching to the Oracle Calendar
system is that it will allow better communication across departments.
